Benefits of switching gas and electricity suppliers

Who are Ofgem?

Ofgem is the regulator for Britain’s gas and electricity industries. Its is to promote choice and value for all customers.

Ofgem's powers are outlined in the Gas Act 1986, the Electricity Act 1989, and amended in the Utilities Act 2000. It also has enforcement powers under the Competition Act 1998.

Ofgem works to encourage fair and competitive supply of all gas and electric products to all consumers within the United Kingdom.

You can contact Ofgem by calling 020 7901 7000, or by writing to Ofgem, 9 Milbank, London SW1P 3GE.

Ofgem is the organisation responsible for ensuring the UK energy market is as fair and transparent as possible for customers. Currently, with the huge range of gas and electricity tariffs available, with a wide disparity between the cheapest energy deals and the most expensive tariffs, this is a difficult task.

Ofgem have proposed initiatives such as being able to force mis-behaving energy companies to actually reimburse energy customers for bad behaviour such as mis-selling strategies etc. Sometimes unpopular with the big energy suppliers, it is usually popular with energy consumers!

If you are paying too much for your energy supplies, why not do a gas & electricity comparison right here on Switchomatic - the process is free, 100% impartial and only takes a few minutes.
