Benefits of switching gas and electricity suppliers

As gas price tumbles, energy price war breaks out on switching sites

As stock markets tumbled all over the world in the last week, so energy prices have dropped too. UK wholesale gas prices are down 2.1% and electricity is down 1.4%. Over the last year these prices have dropped massively - 29% and 16% respectively.

This afternoon, reflecting this market of rapidly dropping prices, the cheapest energy bills also dropped. Two small suppliers first:utility and extra energy fought it out at the top of the switching tables today following the launch of new table-topping tariffs.

Mark Todd, director of whole-of-market price comparison site energyhelpline.com has commented: “When stock markets drop so do commodity prices, including gas and electricity. As a result today we have seen a price war at the top of the switching tables. First Utility and extraenergy are battling it out to have the cheapest fixed price energy tariff in the UK. Being crowned with the top spot is worth thousands of new customers a day.”

“Both tariffs can save a typical customer over £400 a year so they are great value deals. With winter just around the corner, now is the perfect time to switch.”
